Bargains for the week of May 26 – June 1

I know it’s late, but there is still time to take advantage of these great deals:

Year’s Best Deal on Whole Chicken! – Stater Brothers $.67/lb.  Tyson brand chicken.

Whole Tri-Tip – Ralph $1.97/lb. is the cheapest.  Although this is not trimmed, for over $3 difference in price per pound it’s worth the savings to cut the fat off yourself!  If you want trimmed, you’ll have to pay Vons $4.99/lb. (I am not sure, but I think this is the regular price for trimmed at Costco.)

Large Scallops – Ralphs $5.99/lb.  This is a great bargain.  Especially if you make sure the scallops you get are not coated in a layer of ice.  (I found that was the case when I saw King Crab Legs on sale there once.)

Tomatoes – Grocery Outlet 2 lb./$1  This price is for regular tomatoes, not Roma tomatoes!  Roma tomatoes are even less!!!  While you are there, you may want to grab some Sara Lee Bagels $.99 and see if they have any more discounted Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.

Yellow Nectarines – Boney’s $.69/lb.

Bananas (Mexican) – Boney’s 4 lbs./$1 (limit 8 lbs.)

Haas Avocados (California) – Boney’s 6/$1 (limit 12)

Peaches (white or yellow) – Boney’s $.69/lb. beats Ralphs $.88/lb.

Blackberries – Sprouts $.99/6 oz. basket

Here is my Super Easy Fruit Cobbler recipe for those peaches and blackberries:

Super Easy Fruit Cobbler

1 stick melted butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. flour
1 t. baking powder
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. ground nutmeg
4 C. 1 inch pieces of fruit or berries
Mix all the above together and pour over fruit or berries. Then sprinkle 1/2 cup sugar over batter. Pour 1/2 cup water over sugar and batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
Note: For really watery fruit like strawberries, pour only 1/4 water over sugar and batter.
